Ok. everyting is rendering fine here witht he same preset you used.
1st of all update your podium version by downloading it here. If the problem is still there, try and render what you gave us (exactly) this way will know if you deleted something that caused the issue. Components from the browser should not cause this, except if they intersected with point light etc..
If your having problem by rendering what you gave us (do not change setting, only activate shadows) with podium up to date, I'll scratch my head one more time
Hang in there, will get it to work. Please let us know.

Hi Nick, I updated my podium via the link you posted.
And I've rendered the model (that I posted to Box) but with some strange results. I rendered at the same size and settings as the image you posted on April 3rd... but I am bewildered as to why the wood material is no longer being rendered. It shows up just fine in model mode.
Any thoughts? I know you need me to render an exact facsimile in order to diagnose what's going wrong on my end in terms of that speckling effect.
I ran it multiple times. Should I erase the wood material and reimport and apply it off of Podium Browser?

Update:
I reloaded and applied the wood texture and re-rendered it.
It should now be a close match to the test one that you ran. Except mine is quite splotchy of course.

Well, It renders completely fine on my end..what the hell.
Have you tried a complete re-install of podium yet? Delete everything related to podium in the SketchUp installation folders download form here and re-install.
There's got to be something wrong with your presets or something..

Okay. That sounds reasonable. I've really been wondering since the light splotches are constant.
I'll re-install and let you know if things improve. Thanks.

So what do you think?
No splotches. And I think if I rendered it at 6000 pixels and compress it down, I could probably reduce the graininess too.
Thanks. I think we have this issue resolved.
Btw, when is an appropriate time to use caustics? I thought it was whenever glass was involved.

Actually, regarding caustics, that's completely wrong
Once you actually know what caustics are, and the effects they produce, you wouldn't use them for probably 90% of your scenes.
You need them for closeup renders of solid (particularly curved) glass, some types of curved metal objects, and some scenes with water.
Have a look here. This gives you a pretty good idea of where you need the feature. This is something we really need to improve if I'm honest.
