Someone over here, A New york based art gallery:

http://www.art-mine.com/

Decided to make a genius plug in called ARTmine.skp

http://skp.art-mine.com/

Once installed you can search artwork by theme, colours, with/height,  Hundreds of originel artworks appearently. Select and it gets imported to your model. The textures are projected positioned in the group/component already so there's no need to worry about that.

I only wish í had thought of this plug in

Seriously cool , check it out

Edit: I've been giving it a spin for 2 days, havent noticed any conflicts with other plug ins or podium for that matter. Seems pretty solid of a ruby script.

I've seen this before and it's pretty cool. The big problem for me is that there are no options for adding frames.
They are all plain canvasses, and I don't think they have any thickness either, unlike real canvases.

No thats true, they're only 1cm thick.................or thin :-)

You can droptool select the imagetexture thats imported and use it in a framework made by oneself I suppose,

in that regard the podium pictureframes are a quicker solution

but hurray for variation lol

Yes, it's a cool tool. The thing is, frames would be so easy to implement. In Ruby terms it's easy enough. Someone should tell the company
