Hi,

Just downloaded edit in place for Sketchup 8 on a Mac running Lion.

Context menu/ Edit in place open new window with component in.

I edit component and File/ Save but it prompts to save the new window to a file on the mac. So I save. Then I go back to original model context menu but Edit in place Update is not available and force update produces nothing.

I have just been double checking this in the model and found this:

If I make changes in edit in place then change the tool I used to make the change then I get prompted to save to file as above. If I don't change the tool but just select save with the tool icon still on the pointer then I can go back to the original and Edit in Place Update is then available. So it does work but appears that each change to the model has to be updated before another change can be made.

I think this may be a bug as the instructional video clearly showed multiple changes being made before saving.

Any help appreciated.

Bo

Further to this I have been able to make multiple changes. The trick is not to change the tool back to the pointer icon before saving as the pointer icon saves to file where the tool icon saves to update edit in place. Also if I make changes with a tool I have to save those changes with the tool icon still on the pointer before changing the tool to make other changes. That is to say I have to save each change before making another or I get save to file again.

Slightly confusing!

I haven't seen the instructional video, but I'm guessing it's the Windows version.

Edit in Place behaves slightly differently for each platform due to the way they work.

What you are describing is the way it works for me on the Mac and is no problem.

Launch Edit in Place, edit your group/component, save.
Select Edit in Place Update - done.

If you want to edit it again, repeat from the start.

Right, for the Mac, after saving the group or component and closing it, you do need to choose Edit In Place: Update.

Im successfully using edit in place a very nice edition to the work flow.
Can you help with the naming of groups. when I name my group - "house" editinplace uses Group27 - the definition - as opposed to its name. we then have a list of "group27.skp" "group13.skp" etc in the folder we are working in.
This is a sketchup outliner/tree structure/hierarchy way of working which i understand but not fully yet

Don't use the name, use the definition instead, it's much easier.
