Maybe a dumb question, but I'm new. Are u supposed to explode everything in your model before rendering? I saw someone say something to that effect in another post like it was "common sense" or something. I haven't been exploding my models and they have been turning out pretty good. But if there is a different approach I am missing - please let me know.

Being new to the program as well I have had times were objects, mainly components, didnt even show up in the renderings. one way I got around this was to explode it then regroup it. Another option I have had luck with was to choose "render all" rather than "render only visable". Perhaps TBD or the masters can direct you to a tutoral or FAQ which explains this nature of the program.

Yeah the render all option generally always works for me, i never seem to use the render visable as it never seems to work! I never seem to explode my models, though that may explain some abnormalities. Try a render with one exploded and one not, see if it makes any difference.

Exactly! If something dosn't show up that's grouped explode it and re group it. If it's a texture that's not showing make sure your faces are correct. It seems its not a hard fast rule..sometimes a reversed face will render correctly etc., so give that a try. As far as render only visible, don't even go there! It dosn't work but I think TBD and the gang are planning to make it work correctly for a future release..that was one of the things I put on my wish list in the survey! hope that helps David

yeah, render only visible doesn't work in all cases. if I cannot make it work in the next version, maybe I will remove it. exploding is not necessary unless some render problems arise. then, if you want to help me, try to move to a new document the culprit component/group and see if you can reproduce the same problem. if yes, post it her so I can take a look

One thing, kinda-soughta related...dont have omni lights as components... if you do...you'll need to explode those.

I used omni inside components all time with no problems - it works best if you want to change the light output in one go

Even I encountered this problem but I eventually saved it as another file and exploded it. Thanks for letting me know about the render all option.

That was exactly my intent...to be able to change light levels in one go...but ran into an error. Brief history here - http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/supodiumforum/vpost?id=1801721 It appeared that this was a 'common occurance'... PS. apologies to Turnis for hijacking the thread.

Er, render only visible seems to work for me i just explode everything. Haven't used any interior lighting yet tho - only natural. Maybe when I get to that stage I will be in agreeance.
