Dear God no, not Facebook...

One of us would actually have to start a Facebook account - and actually do something with it. Some people do have a real life

Twitter is quite enough I think.

We have a Twitter account because it allows us to post short announcements with zero ongoing maintenance.

If we already were Facebook users - I guess we would have done it. Neither Dave nor I have the time for it.

Difficult to make ourselves an idea about facebook, isn't it?
I personnaly hate the idea of it. But, the point is, I actually get more feedback from my facebook page that I do from my webpage...

I think the most disturbing thing for me is to think that the guy who created this Facebook thing has 7 billion dollars on his bank account and does not even hire me to redecorate his house!!! What a waste!!! really

Well, Facebook is certainly difficult to ignore. However, the people I know that use it most are under 18. Or have a similar mentality

I don't mean to be rude about anyone who uses Facebook, this is just a very small sample of people who I know personally who use it a lot.

Sounds like the fear of the unknown to me.

Facebook is becoming a far more common way to communicate compared to twitter. I believe you can also post items on twitter that will automatically appear on facebook.

Many companies now have a facebook account. We noticed a big upturn in our website traffic since creating a facebook page.

A facebook account would spread the word about Podium far better than twitter, and would work hand in hand with your website. Think about it as a marketing strategy for getting new users and licence payers!

Maybe change your signature to "beware the man who sounds middle aged" (only joking)

Actually, not so.

My wife and children have Facebook accounts. My sisters, nephews and nieces have them too. I know what it is and how it works.
I know of the benefits, and the alleged marketing potential. I know also that companies like Apple and Facebook have Facebook pages.

Thing is - I still don't want anything to do with it.

The whole principle of having a site where you post updates about yourself and social life just sounds narcissistic and self-obsessed to me. Admittedly business pages aren't like this but you need to spend time with it to make it in any way worthwhile. We have so many other things to do, that we don't need another.

There are so many things people could do (even if you discount the wider and more important notion of 'real life') that would be a much better use of time than what seems to me to be social voyeurism and obsession with personal trivia.

I have RSS feeds to archdaily, notcot.org, crunchgear, treehugger.com, appleinsider and language log among others. I learn interesting things from these. Everything I do for Podium is done in (almost all) of my spare time. I simply don't have time for Facebook.

Dave is involved in stuff other than Podium, and he doesn't have a lot of spare time either.
