Hey guys, I am producing some concept renders for a product and it needs to be positioned in the parking lot of a mall or mixed-use type center. I found some renders of mall type settings online and have been trying to render the product at a similar angle, cutting it out in Photoshop, and then placing it in the image, but it got me wondering, why don't I just try and find a premade mall with parking lot and then I can play with the angles and lighting all I want. Would look a whole lot more natural. Thing is, I don't know where decent SU models can be purchased. It seems that everything is 4D Max or AutoCAD. The models for SU all seem to be on the cheaper side (other than Podiums 3D store, I couldn't be more happy with that stuff!" Anyone have any ideas? These are the types of locations I'm talking about:

Did you look in the 3D Warehouse? There are various mall settings in there. If you find something similar, you could modify it easily. I think the parking lot is pretty simple to make. And the 3D warehouse has various cars to import. Otherwise, you could try Turbosquid.com or Google (Free) 3D models. I also found this list on this site of other sources for 3D models (see link). http://www.sweethome3d.com/importModels.jsp

Thanks a_cerra. The thought to make a parking lot crossed my mind, but this is for an investor pitch and I want it to be pretty realistic and detailed, so using a pre existing one seemed like the right choice. Definitely trying to work smarter and not harder.

A word of caution when importing geometry from other sources is that you may get issues in Podium. It works just fine with SketchUp geometry and texturing, but we can't test it with imported geomtry from other modellers. We know that there are occasional problems. Most of the time it seems to work fine though.
