Anyone try this with podium yet? Does it work?

I did - a long time ago. The render feature doesn't work but everything else did.

This is the guy that wrote Skatter, and in future we would like to support it's instancing feature with Podium.

If anyone is interested.
layer panel plugin worked for me.
MAC OSX 10.12.6
SU Pro 2017

A window popped up stating that layers panel needed to debug. clicked ok, and a few seconds later everything was loaded.

Some layers off, and the 3D leaves, people, and cars layers are off but with the teapot selected which means that they should render... and they did.

Haven't tried layer states manager but that will most likely come in handy as I usually turn off most entourage layers and 3D foliage. Having a layer state set to quickly turn them on and off at once to check on things is handy. Autocad users delight!

Hi ,
Anyone using this on windows PC regularly ? Is it reliable enough and not crashing in heavy scenes?

Looks like a good tool for managing heavy files (with HUGE components). Just wanted to check if proxy-view plugin may be better or this one.

It does work, but it is prone to generating errors on loading. They are easily fixed, but it's just a bit of an unnecessary irritation every time SU loads.

It does need some work for fixing, and modified, and it could be perfect for Podium. The source code has been made available for anyone who wants to modify it. It would be cool to have a Podium-specific version.

I haven't tried the Proxy view plugin, if you do, let us know how well it works.

Well - we have lots of stuff to do already. Priorities are allocated based on demand.

The more of you that ask for it, the greater the likelihood that we will look at it [wink]

Then maybe we can move this thread back to main category from Lounge .   ( @davew  ) [smile]
I feel this kind of plugin will surely increase appeal of Podium to a wider section and make it easier to handle various project types.

Wow, the Layers Panel render-only feature actually works with Podium! That is news to me, I'd never installed it before this.

You can see exactly how they did it in the viewport... when you click render, any layer that is marked render-only is briefly made visible while the exporter runs.  So it's definitely less sophisticated than the way Skatter is doing it, but still could be quite useful.

Haven't tested with a heavy scene yet -- I could see how it might cause instability, but so far so good.

Yeah - the author contacted us when he wrote it to build in Podium support.

It's a really nice plugin, but the error every time you open SU is annoying.

I've been using it on MAC OSX operating system for a little over a year now. I've yet to reinstall on version 2018 pro. I'm hoping it still works. I haven't been able to get the layer states manager to work but you can achieve the same idea in the scene manager. But, it is very useful. I can keep heavy poly count items like tree leaves for example off almost the entire time including rendering. Very nice.

I guess there are lot of tips and tricks buried inside forum's dormant threads.
Probably someone can look at these yearly and update something like the 'duh Book's at sketchucation.

The Manual of 2014 is also due for refresh.

Cheers !
