[contest-header-wide]

Hello everyone! It’s been a long time since we’ve held one of these, but SU Podium render contests are back in a big way!

For this first contest, we’re showcasing Podium Browser.  The only real thematic restriction this time around is that we're looking for interior images.  Judging will be based on creative use of Podium Browser components and materials to design and render your space, as well as technical proficiency with SU Podium.  There aren't any hard and fast rules about the number of PB components you need to incorporate, but we will be looking specifically for images that make great use of Podium Browser.

The contest runs for one month, until 11:59 PM UTC on Nov 14.  Please read through contest page for submission guidelines, prize information, etc. To paraphrase:

  1. Create a WIP thread in the contest forum: Post as often as you like, but we'd like to see at least one work in progress image showing the SU Podium info bar. Create your thread here.
  2. Resolution: Your final submission should be at least 1920x1080 pixels.
  3. Only one image is required, but if you feel that submitting additional images or a panorama VR will help showcase your design, you’re free to do so.
  4. Only original submissions will be accepted: To keep a level playing field, please don't submit a past portfolio/client work. Only work created specifically for this contest will be considered.
  5. You're free to use one of Browser's pre-made houses or studio model interiors. (Not required)

To participate, please make a WIP thread, and indicate in the title that it is for the current contest, ie: Podium Browser Render Contest 2016 - Username

Good luck! Feel free to ask any questions below or send me a PM if you prefer.

Are we allowed to alter the components from the browser like changing the materials or must they stay as they originally come?

Good question, yes feel free to alter them, change the materials, etc.  That includes adding detail, beveling edges, and anything else you need to do.

Hi Justin,

Just a quick question, the guidelines outline that the image needs to be at least 1920x1080. Does that mean that the aspect ratio for images have to be proportimate to that dimension or just the long edge has to be at least 1920?

My Sketchup Viewport has a much wider view range so i'm wondering if I would have to crop the edges to fit within that aspect ratio, or if it's fine as is. My render's have 2500 as the pixels for the long edge.

Hi Val,

No any aspect ratio is fine, we really just meant to specify "full HD or larger," but I should clarify that on the contest page. Ideally it would be at least 1080px on the short axis, and then as wide/tall as you like.

Hi!
Quick Question...
Are we supposed to be uploading our final image into our WIP thread? Or is there somewhere else the final renderings should uploaded to? Not sure if I missed this somewhere. Thanks!

In your WIP thread is fine, just make sure that the post is clearly labeled as your final submission  (or something along those lines).

It was suggested that some people might want to keep their final submissions secret, so we also put a direct upload widget on the contest page

Either way works, it's up to you; I'll go through everything carefully at the end and make sure we don't miss anyone's entry.

Justin

Hi Chris, no the info bar does not need to be on in the final image.

Another question Justin, we can send 2 or more different submissions?

By example

Render A - Kitchen
Render B - Chapel Interior
Render C - Interior Cabin

You can definitely submit multiple images that are part of the same project.  So if you modeled an adjacent kitchen and living room for example, we'll consider a series of images from that space as a single entry.

But we're limiting it to one "entry" per competitor, so if the cabin and chapel are from completely different models/projects you'd have to pick one or the other.

Regarding your WIP thread, it's clear that they form a cohesive set from the same floorplan, so I think that's a perfect example of how a multiple image submission should be structured.  The only one that feels separate is the chapel at the very end.

Hope that's clear enough!

Hi Justin,

I just uploaded my final rendering for the 2016 Podium Browser contest. I have the image in my tread. Is this submission large enough?

Thank you,
Janna
