Hi guys,

So I've been using ProWalker GPU for a couple of weeks now. with excellent results. I've generated a couple of short videos, and done some still images at screen resolution. However, when I try to generate higher resolution stills (anything outside of Window Size), the rendering process starts and finishes at 3 samples. It saves the still, but when you look at it is not fully cooked.

Video card is not a problem, the PC has a brand new 1080. I was wondering if someone is experiencing a similar problem and/or if there is a solution or workaround to this?

Thank you!!

Hm. I don't think this has ever been reported, I will do some tests though and see if I can replicate it.

ProWalker runs past 3 samples when you're watching it in the viewport though, correct?  It's only when you actually run the 'Capture an image' function that it stops prematurely?

So I did three tests -

Window resolution, 1000 samples - Success
2x Window Resolution, 1000 samples - Success
Arbitrary large resolution (with a different aspect ratio from viewport), 1000 samples - Success

All of them ran to completion and saved.

What is your sample count set at in the settings dialog? (Gear icon)

Also, to get more info from you:
  • What version of Windows?
  • What version of SketchUp?
  • Which render mode?
  • Was de-noise on or off?

I've changed the sample count from  the midpoint to Fine in automatic. I also tried 1000 with the same result.

Info requested:
Windows 7 Professional
Sketchup 2018
Render Mode Id
Desnoise on

I kept on running test renderings and found out failure happens as a result of high resolution combined with high Physical light intensity. If I lower it to 3.5 it works...but then the interior rendering is too dark. See image of my light settings.  What are the specs of your machine? Like I said before I have a 1080 video card and and two Intel Xeon(R) processors. I assume this should be fine to run ProWalker.

The tests I did were also on a dual Xeon with multiple 1080 TIs.  I really can't imagine your hardware is the problem, even if it was somehow running out of GPU memory the two Xeons should be able to supplement it.  Are your GPU drivers up to date?

I can do some tests on a 1060 to confirm that lower hardware isn't an issue.

Also, I just realized I was using a SU 2017 version -- let me switch to SketchUp 2018 and see if anything changes.

Has this happened on several models or just the one you're currently working on?  (If its only been this one model, would you be willing to upload it to our support account? http://www.suplugins.com/podium/support.php  That way I could check whether that model will render correctly on our machines).

Drivers are up to date.

So I just checked with a different model...an exterior this time, and the same thing happened. I even reset the light settings to default to see if it helped, but it didnt. With 2x of my screen size it crashed at  3 samples.

However, after that I did a random, even bigger resolution (5820x3570), and it worked fine.

Just for reference, when I use window size, my resolution is 1920x1085, twice that (3840x2170) is the one that is making it crash at 3 samples.

Edit:

It definitely has to do with those proportions (1920x1085), I just did 4800x2200 and it also worked fine.

Oh my gosh I just though of something, so sorry for not asking this sooner...

Are you using the trial by any chance?

No, full license.

Alright, I just figured a workaround. Instead of using the proportions from my ProWalker window size (1920x1085) and doubling up from there, I used the proportions from my SketchUp View Size 1864 x 1035, and I sized it up from there and it worked fine. It would be nice if it can get resolved though.

OK, yeah just saw your edit.

That is really unusual, to say the least. I'll ask someone to look at this thread.

Will try that resolution and see if I can duplicate it.
