Does it render fine in Podium? If not, it most likely indicates a material configuration issue.
Have you run Podium Tools?

Hey Amorican, I have had the sky simulation crash on me a few times with ProWalker, and it looked a lot like this.  Light was still coming in, but the background was completely black.

But in my case it fixed itself after closing and re-opening ProWalker.  Is this happening repeatedly for you?

Also, definitely check and make sure your graphics card driver is up to date. Nvidia released several updates within a pretty short stretch in May and June, and Iray gets pretty buggy with out of date drivers.

yeah, i updated to latest drivers - PW finally stopped crashing.  [rolleyes]
it still feels buggy tho.

i fixed the above problem by selecting a new background within PW.

now, my issue is that it seems no matter what lighting i use it renders dark.  sometimes my preview looks different, but it always renders a dark final product.  incredibly frustrating.

I wonder if it's some kind of system or software conflict. This is pretty unusual. You could try creating a brand new user account with just SU and ProWalker installed. If it works, it's a configuration issue.

If it doesn't, it still could be some sort of driver conflict.

so, i think i 'fixed' the issue by making a copy of my omni lights.  in other words, i doubled how many there were.  i copied them a few inches up.
yes, i realize i could have adjusted the power of the lights, but i was just trying anything as quick as i could.

so apparently i just didn't have enough light?  which doesn't make sense to me because my still images render beautifully in podium.

does walker not use the omnis in the same manner?

There's a global artificial light and sun light slider in both ProWalker.  You can increase the physical light or point light or LEM light intensity by using the sliders accessed from the light bulb icon.  You might share the model with us so we can give it a shot.
ProWalker supports Podium point lights/ spot lights and LEMs.
