Since SU 2018 (and to my best recollection, not previously) some rendered images are either black, or as in the images attached (don't be concerned with the quality) the rendered image is totally different. It has been happening so often I have begun a habit of checking the progress asap rather than waiting for the image to resolve.
In this instance the scene was rendered 3 times with 3 different results - the one shown is, it could be said, in the middle - with the first one being some random external view, and the 3rd being ok. The first was done with no environment change, the 2nd (shown here) had Podium sky 1 ticked, and the 3rd, which is ok, was standard and had shadows and the time set.
Any ideas why this might occur.
Would it have anything to do with setting the size to 4606x2953 (done to fit the page in Layout)?

It looks like the issue we had with Renderall on the Mac where Podium would start rendering before the scene had changed, and was in transition while the SU camera was switching between scenes.

That can't be the case here though. I occasionally get black renders though. We had a persistent problem with this that we fixed. It still seems to happen occasionally. What does Podium Tools say about the scene?

With all bug/problem fixing, we have to isolate the circumstances before we isolate the cause.

It sounds like a problem with Podium writing temporary files. Does this happen with the Generate function? That's the script icon.

Thanks Jim. I looked back at a series of images from a few days ago that went haywire, and it does appear that what you are saying about the scene transition issue might be happening here. Mostly it has been in preview or default mode so not a massive time waste, but it is perplexing (and confusing) when the scene is not changed, and I am just trying to determine the best lighting.

Try 640x480 resolution at normal quality for previews - much faster!

Thanks for that.
Hope you don't mind me asking - but I have another, off this topic, issue on a project which has become a real problem.
That is: every "white" that I paint with becomes this "J4-thin-glass-refra-1,00-ix-1,52-fres" texture, which has an opacity of 80%.
No other "colours" or textures are affected.
Also, I found that the rogue texture / colour had cloned every time I applied a "white" (I tried a few before I realised what the problem was), and so I deleted all of them, but the issue continues to occur. The only way I found to correct it is to alter the opacity each time - but I now think this might be the cause of the image resolving so poorly. Just can't get the lighting and colours right!
Apart from this, SketchUp now seems to be crashing every second time I launch Podium.

Hmm, that's some system weirdness going on there which sounds like either a conflict or some sort of corruption somewhere.

The way to test this is to create another user account, install SU and Podium, and see if the issue reoccurs. I would be astounded if it did, because these are pretty major issues that are otherwise unheard of. If we had numerous reports of Podium crashing SU every time it launched, we would have fixed it by now [smile]

It sounds like you might have a corrupted SU template. That texture issue is very strange indeed...
