I'm trying to determine why the light angle suddenly shifted in this model although I haven't changed any settings in shadows.  I was working on this kitchen model and had light coming into the space in an interesting pattern.  Then I realized that I had lost all this interior light.  I've attached screen shots to show that they have the identical UTC Zone, time, and date; and yet the angle of light is completely different.  I've had this shift happen in the past, and have never been able to figure out what's going on.  Can you help?

I see the SketchUp models are too big to attach here, so will send them to support@cadalog-inc.com

Thanks,

Diane

Hi Diane, I just saw the WeTransfer files you sent.  I'll take a look tonight and see if I can replicate the issue.

Is your Podium updated to the most recent version?

Hmm, shadow angle is rendering correctly for me in the Ex 1 interior.

Do you have an example render showing the incorrect shadows?

So, the point is that both examples have the exact same settings, yet the shadow position is very different.  I want the shadows to appear as they are in example 1, yet now the shadows have moved (although the settings haven't changed) and are rendering as in Example 2.    Does that make sense?

I just tried to check to see which version I have.  I think I have V2.5+.    When I checked on the "About" tab at the bottom of the Podium Menu, it took me to this page  Your SU Podium V2.x Version: 2.5.601...so I'm assumng that's the version that I have.

Oh OK I misunderstood! Thought you were saying the shadows were rendering incorrectly from viewport to render.

I see what you mean about the shadow angle being different from the first model to the next. That is actually very peculiar, though it's not really a Podium question...

Do you have Solar North installed? That might help you set a precise North angle.

I don't have Solar North..but not sure that would solve this problem.  Do you have any insider line to anyone at SketchUp who might be able to help me solve this problem?

I don't, but here's what I did:

yakima-combined.jpg

I just copy pasted the model from the second scene into the first and saved them as a combined file.  Then you could just delete what you don't need and split them into separate files, but they should then have the same shadow angle.

I have no insight about why the shadow angles were different in the first place.

I am on a slow connection, but if your machine doesn't have enough RAM to complete the copy+paste I can upload this later.

Yes...I would appreciate it if you would upload it...not 100% sure how you solved this so would like to take a look at yours.

You could send it to me directly at Diane@seeddd.com if that's easiest.

Thanks much for all your trouble-shooting.  I just sent the whole thing in to SketchUp also...I'll let you  know what they have to say.

No problem, it's uploading through WeTransfer now.  SketchUp support may have a better solution... all I did was opened both files simultaneously, selected everything in the second model, copied it, and then pasted it all into the first model.  So there are two instances of the building in the same file, but you could just delete unneeded geometry and save it into two separate files again.

So all the shadows are going the same direction, the one drawback I can see is that none of your camera angles from the second model would have been copied so you'll need to set your cameras again.

Just got the file and will play around with it.  Thanks so much!  Again, I'll let you know what SketchUp has to say....
