Bigstick... A BIG hi !!

This is Macho, seeing you after a long time friend! Hope to be frequenting the Podium corridors again.

Didn't want to enter on a sorry note, but I have a problem though. There seems to be a bug with Podium V2.

I only just purchased V2 2.11.130 with paid content - podium browser (I hope this is the latest version).

When I try to assign an image texture material from the conventional material libraries of sketchup (or downloaded from 3D warehouse), and if the material is not already a part of the scene (i.e. it is not In Model), sketchup bugsplats.

When however, I remove SU_Podium_V2.rbs from the plugins folder, sketchup works just fine and I can assign any material from the material libraries that sketchup/ 3d warehouse provides, without the bugsplat. The problem is isolated with SU Podium V2, 2.11.130, I've extensively tested this, removing and adding the subject SU_Podium_V2.rbs and using different materials.

Now the problem is that I have many material libraries pre-existing on my system and though Podium browser is a great treasure trove of everything sketchup, I cannot do without my materials and the 3d warehouse and be using only the content provided by the Podium browser V2.

Has this bug been reported earlier by anybody else, as this is veritably a huge turn off and needs correction.

I am on Windows 7 Pro x64, Intel Core2Quad extreme 3Ghz, 8GB Ram, nVidia GeForce 660Ti-2GB onboard.

By the way, everything was working fine till before I installed Podium V2; and works fine after I uninstall it.

Looking for a revert from your side at the earliest, friend.

Thanks.

Best,

Ar. Nitin Sharma

I can't imagine that Podium V2 alone is causing that bug splat. I mean, the program is being used by thousand of SketchUp users for over two and half years.  There would be a lot of complaints about something that fundamental.  I wonder if there is something conflicting with another plug-in or even something missing in the SketchUp program files.
What version of SketchUp are you using?
What language version?
What operating system?
What other plug-ins are you using?
Would it be prudent to reinstalling SketchUp to make sure all the files are there?
Then reinstall SU Podium V2.

Hi Macho, really nice to see you back after such a long time!

You haven't found a bug, I'm afraid, there is a glitch with your machine, or a conflict with one of your other plugins. Perhaps another render engine by any chance?

I use the facility to load textures all the time, as we all do. If this didn't work, we couldn't build more preconfigured Podium Materials for the Browser!

Can you give us a list of your plugins, and we can confirm which ones we know work fine.

You can either upload a screenshot, or if you have Gabriele Ponti's and free fantastic 'Send To Toys' extension, you can select all the files and folders, right-click and select 'Send to clipboard as name', and you can paste a list of everything in the folder. Make sure you have the extension configured to send each item as a new line. It's great for drawing issue sheets

For Mac users, there is an equivalent called Pathsnagger, which installs as a service in the context menu for Finder.

I'm sure we can fix this!

Hi Bigstick!

I've done some extensive testing on this these last few days. It seems there is a disagreement between Podium & LumenRT, they apparently can't coexist together. If one of them is removed, the problem is gone. The issue is not privy to only Podium and LumenRT4 native materials.... When both coexist, not even core sketchup texture materials can be assigned... SU bugsplats (Read Thomthom's section below). There is NO issues with assigning plain or named colors (but who wants them?); all materials carrying diffuse texture maps simply cannot be assigned without sketchup bugsplatting.  My system also has Vray f/SU (latest build), no issues with that coexisting with either LRT and / or Podium. Same thing is true for Thea Render f/SU.

I am using V2 Podium 2.11.130, LRT4 (their latest release & build), SU8 Pro, nVidia GeForce GTX 660Ti (2GB onboard), Core2Quad Extreme 3Ghz, 8GB Ram, 2 TB SATAs.

IMPORTANT: The problem goes away, if the textured material is first dragged from the secondary material window into the "in model" window, and then picked with the Paintbucket tool from the in-model section and assigned. NO Bugsplat !! (Though, this way I have to be clicking 3-4 times and dragging all the time for even a single material assignment, and if I forget ONCE to do it this way- BANG! BUGSPLAT !! (And without any AutoSave Skp mind you !!... Too Risky !)

What this means is that the material has to be FIRST made an "In Model " material by dragging into the Model section of the sketchup material editor; only then it can be assigned without inducing a bugsplat. (Even right clicking and trying to convert the material into an in-model material doesn't help, SU crashes. ONLY way is to DRAG IT IN !)

I came across this thread from THOMTHOM's BLOG about some problem with the SU material assignment API where he talks about something wrong with the API and about first making the material "In model". He has given a (rather lengthy) RUBY console input way of making the material In-Model, (he may not have stumbled across the dragging-in process I came across; I will shortly post my findings there too).

The blog is here, specifically see under the "Current Material BugSplat Warning"  section: -

I love Podium as much as LumenRT (it is good; their V4 release); and though both are into different domains, I will now have to choose between either one of them. I have also posted on the LumenRT forums as Ar. Nitin Sharma.

By the way Big, is it possible to access the SU Podium Browser from outside the V2 Toolbar, (ie without running the SU_Podium_V2.rbs script?) As I see, the SU_Podium_Browser.rbs script exists separately, but the button/ option for Browser does not appear till the SU_Podium_V2.rbs script is also run. I want to, least use the browser, if not Podium V2 which is sadly the sole consolation.

Look forward to your reply asap mate, especially on this Podium Browser last bit. I am sure we can do this, too.

I had LumenRT installed and had no issues. What you could do is install SU7 along with SU8 and have one renderer in one SU and other in the other one. I have both installed. Here is an icon I made to reckognize them on the taskbar.

If I am working in v8, wouldn't make sense to also work parallely in v7, would it? I need the functionality in one. V8.

Dave, Jim

Dave,

I cannot install SU Podium as after running the SU_Podium_V2.rbs that invokes the toolbar containing the browser button, Sketchup becomes susceptible to bugsplats due to some incompatibility with LumenRT (Maybe the Alpha channel/ texture map data), as extensively tested by me and put in the Podium forums here.

I therefore, need to invoke the browser outside of running the SU_Podium_V2.rbs script. I see that a separate Podium browser script does exist in the plugins folder, only that it maybe is dependent on the SU_Podium_V2.rbs script to be run first.

I did pay for the browser plugin feature thinking that it will be a separate, standalone plugin accessible directly from OUTSIDE of Podium (as clearly mentioned on your website), and am now finding that Podium needs to be first installed ! I ALREADY had purchased Podium v2 a while back! Don't need to download the free version Dave.

Please help out! All I need is a script/ button invoking the SU Podium browser, without running the SU_Podium_V2.rbs script!

Thanks.

Untill we find a workaround for this, you can use my suggestion. No need for parallel work. For example, you just save to SU7 format and run LumenRT from SU7 just as you would run from SU8.

Just received a reply from Dave separately. We've found a solution, thanks.

Keep up the good work! Podium rocks!

Also, I intend purchasing 5 seats v2 shortly.

Best,

ANS
