The SU Podium Browser BETA 3 has been released.
This is a user interface that accesses all the Podium light fixtures, plants libraries and now, textures, directly from our web server.  It has not login requirements.
It is available for download form http://www.suplugins.com, Registered User area.  You don't need a serial number or license code at this point.
The categories are, Plants/ Trees, Light Fixtures and Textures.
We will be adding to all categories.  In fact, we have some higher resolution textures coming in a week or two AND adjustments to the light fixtures.  At least the table sub-category will be all updated very soon.
The nice thing from our point of view is that it is all web based so we can add to the libraries easily, without making you download and install a new version
BTW - the plant content at this time, is the same as the Podium 1.7.3 content.  Some plants render great in V2, some don't.
Light fixtures all work but we are updating these.
Textures are interesting - this maybe the first server based texture library for SketchUp.  However, the mac takes a couple of steps.  First the texture is imported to your material browser and then you need to paint it to a face.  Windows is a little more direct.

WOW the material library is SO great!
1- Its REAL fast
2- Easy, and strait forward
3-You have a good size preview

Way better than to add manually...

Unfortunately I had a little bug splat using it, but maybe it was its because I imported things to fast...

Good job guys

It's really Great ,
Although in my opinion, perhaps Podium should provides offline-library also, just like v1.7.3, because not all of the Podium users have a good internet connection right?.

So, Podium can let the users to choose

I'm working on some more textures for this library right now. To make loading faster, we are categorising images so there aren't as many to load for previewing.

Worked reasonably for me over the weekend with a fairly slow connection.

When I was too far from the router and connection speed was really bad over 802.11g, it was difficult.

Maintaining an offline library isn't something we can do effectively. There aren't many of us, and most of our effort goes into support for you guys and development

This is going to get a lot better. We're not done with it yet...

hey guys, great idea. thanks for that.

my only point of disagreement relates to the plants. if not all render well in V2 why bother putting them up? setting up a render takes time and it is a big disappointment to find halos in the trees after a 30 min wait.

right now the only work around I see is to test them all and make a note of which render well and which do not.

Edson, of course - you're right. We are working on a new library, but this stuff takes time, and it's a matter of prioritisation

I'm working on the texture library, Nick is helping us with the lights (because of limitation with my time) and we are only too aware of the plants issue.

If anyone can send us a list of ones which work and ones which don't, simply by means of what you know from testing, it would help.

I will try testing them in a big group and will send you my findings. better than just complaining is helping to fix the problem.

The Plants look great, but when i put them into Sketchup the shadows that they cast are all block shadows not matching the outline of the plants themselves.  Am I missing a setting in SketchUp that will allow the cutout shape?

these plants are not for use with straight sketchup but for rendering with podium. if you try a render you will see that they cast the correct shadows.

Thank you for the quick response.  When i do try to render the shadows don't show.  I have attached a jgp of the model view with shadows on and the rendered scene.  i have had luck with other components that i have made that work fine but these are not.

have you tried creating a horizontal face on which the models can project their shadows? there must be some kind of real ground for the shadows to appear.
