SU Podium V2.8 was released.  It's an evolutionary released not revolutionary but there's things that will please many customers.  Most significant to some users is that multi-byte texture names, output folder names are supported.  For general purpose - 2.8 now supports color reflections of light passing through colored faces.  On/ Off switch in the Options / Environment dialog controls that. Read about 2.8 here - http://www.suplugins.com/whatsnew-v28.php

Nope, V2 licences are for all 2.X releases.
But there's only one left after this one

After 2.9, we go to Podium 3.
Probably!

Hey guys

Im having a bit of trouble with this latest version
The processing scene dialogue is taking a lot longer to do it's thing. It's gone from a couple of minutes in v2.5 to taking multiple hours and sometimes even stops.
It's a bit of a pain when you have to wait hours before you can see the preview, realise something is wrong in the render and then do it all over again.

Hum, that's kinda not possible..it should be faster not slower (with geometry catching)

Have you tested on the same files to make your comparison?

Mine is not slower, but geometry caching is not working. I tried uninstall/reinstall, but no change. In 2.7 with geometry caching on sometimes I would get an empty render - just the sky. This way it is better because I often woke up in the morning to see a number of 8 sec. renderings.

Hello
Mine is slow and also locks up under the render command but is much faster and more stable using generate.

I will try this one out on a previous version
but in 2.8 it took a little over 2 hours to process and 20 minutes to render

Come on guys, give us some clues at least - Windows or Mac?

Can anyone give us some direct comparisons in terms of time?
Caching only works for subsequent renders. It makes no difference to the first, or after you have modified materials.

I haven't modified anything. Same model, same preset, same image size. Just different views. It's not a big problem at least for me although those exports are consuming my CPU so rendering is a bit slower. I'm running win7 64, SU8, podium 2.8
Another thing I noticed - subsequent exporting takes more and more of my RAM and even after it is finished, RAM is still used. It builds up over a few exports and then I have to shut SU down to prevent 100% mem usage. It gradually increses while exporting. Strange thing is that when I sum mem usage of all of the processes(all users) mem usage is about 2.7 Gb / 8 Gb total, but in the status bar it says 84% physical memory. And resource monitor says 0% free.
