Actually I don't think you have proved anything here
Comparing a bad render without HDRI to a better one with it certainly isn't proof.

If you look at the Kray gallery for example, and see all the awesome renders (using our engine) with no HDRI, I defy anyone to tell me that they need it for architecture.

please, think about network rendering!!!!!!  files are often to big to render it on are own computers. Otherwise, I think me and a lot of other people will search for other options....

Yeah, we are looking into this, but it requires the code to use absolute path references instead of relative ones. This is apparently a couple of weeks work.

The next build of the render engine will have better support for network rendering, and there are plans to allow a single image to be split up over a local network of several machines.

It's coming

Will this work via virtual networks like Hamachi?

hmm.. i think almost all of my whislist is already mentioned.. honestly, i want the main thing sir .. its the "subdiv" control .. i know this is maybe too complex, and not mean to compare with the other engine, but, the subdiv is usually have by general engine, its control the reflect material, the smooth of light shadow and will get the best result even we are using medium or lower preset.
i wish in v3 will be more powerful .. i believe it ^_^ thanks before

He's referring to Vray's subdivision settings, which act like quality multipliers. There's subdivs for glossy reflections, shadow quality, AA, the irradiance map etc. Vray also has a global subdivision multiplier, which allows you to, well, multiply all of the subdivsion settings in one go -save for a few (light cache, aa and caustics, I believe -I could be wrong).

Teknikarsitek is right, sometime we get noisy render result when using blur reflection to get the dof reflection effect on materials, it still so hard to get it.

and Teknikarsitek, maybe you should show an example of the use of subdiv,  so we can see the difference

Kray has a similar variable called gi_resolution. The lower this number, the more accurate, but slower the render.

However, this on its own won't necessarily make the difference that I think you want. It won't automatically enhance all the quality settings. This is determined by a combination of GI resolution, number of photons (and caustics photons) fired, number of photons to be smoothed, FG rays, light accuracy, prerender passes and accuracy.

If we could have created a simple slider for this, we would have

What we are proposing to do is implement a dialog to allow users to modify render preset parameters giving you complete control.

Something like this would be great, I know its an option in the voting, just wanted to show what the competitors are up to because this already won an award and hasnt been released yet.

At my office we have been doing huge masterplanning models in China (1,000,000 + entities when rendering) and having a rendering farm of anykind local or internet or cloud based, it would be what I consider the most important thing lacking from podium.

Love the program!!  Cant wait for the next release

Yes this is in the plan.

But Podium is extremely fast and would be almost only useful for Big QMC renders. Normal renders would not be worth it. You will still have to export all the geometry on your computer so that stage would not be saved; only the rendering part, which is pretty fast.

How much time did the rendering took? (OOPR part only, the number that is shown after the render is finished)

Shaderlight is slow... to say the least

There are so many things I could say about this. To start with, how can Shaderlight have won an award for something that hasn't been released yet?
Its render quality isn't great either...

We know about network rendering

my requests that aren't on the list:

1.- displacement
2.- much better caustics
3.- much more real physical weather conditions and sky (with clouds, really cloudy, rain, seeing the sun, etc.)
4.- fog (also being able to see the sun rays through a dusty or foggy atmosphere)
5.- IES files support
6.- real transparent background
7.- a collection of generic 360 degrees landscapes and cityscapes
8.- slide bar for blurs
9.- not caring if a material is on the back face
10.- better control features for spotlights (it's a little difficult to rotate them because they're only "wire framed"
11.-  a material preview display on the material options window

so far, that's what I can come up with. if you could add those things aside from the other 10 on the list, i'd be the happiest man alive!

1. V3 most likely not a big priority
2. What use have you planed for this?
3. Yeah that be great, but not to hard to do in PP
4. Kind of thing more easy to to in PP because you have direct control and response, don't have to wait for the render to finish each time.
5. Absolutely
6. What do you mean exactly?
7. I'm working on it, gonna be in the browser
8. I don't how how/if it would be doable, but this would be very great.
9. That's with the render engine which can't understand 2 sided faces. Can't change that easily i'm afraid. But most of the time you won't have problem with this. It only becomes more picky with LEM.

IMO, material preview is not really useful. Quick test render will do what you want. And you already got them in the browser
