Yeah, let's do it!

Might help bring this place to life a bit, I feel like the forum always slows down during the summer.

You have anything in mind for a theme??

Hello!

What about using a specific material from the browser, like a type of concrete or brick or some interesting material, and from that material generate a concept o composition?

Arqcova, sorry I dropped the ball on this and suddenly it's almost August.

What if instead of just a material, people can pick one or more items from the Browser and make that the focus of their composition.  But the twist is that you are encouraged to modify, combine or disguise the item(s) in any way you see fit to create something new and interesting.

For example: Turn a piece of furniture into a piece of architecture.  A cabinet/sideboard morphs into a home. Or a shelving unit becomes a high-rise.  Or an Apple magic mouse becomes... something fast and aerodynamic?

There are a lot of very nice "base shapes" in Browser that could become something cool/unexpected.

Anyone?

Just checking! hahaha I think we need more contests.... but they are not popular if there isn't a "price"...

Maybe the price is just a free model or a gift card for any business partner (AXYZ or human alloy or similar) just some thoughts....

I know it's so dead here lately. [bawl]

AIA just announced their theme for the 2018 conference in June, and I thought it was a really good one: http://conferenceonarchitecture.com/a18-theme-blueprint-for-better-cities/

It occurred to me that a contest or two throughout the course of the next six months that somehow related to the AIA theme would be really interesting.

I was in Seattle a few days ago and made it down to the Olympic Sculpture Park for the first time, and was thinking about what a great bit of urban design it is -- something like that would be neat to visualize.

I agree we need an incentive, I could go to to Dave with some ideas.

Cool! never heard about that sculpture park (Serra's and Calder's by the looks of it! really cool!! now I need to go to Seattle!)

I agree with Justin! the great theme involves all of us,  designers, landscapers, architects, urbanists, artists, anyone that cares their built and unbuilt environment and their surroundings.

Thanks for answering!

There is quite a bit of Richard Serra's work in Washington. Quite a few pieces in the University of Washington campus too.

Yeah there are also two of his that I know of at WWU in Bellingham.  We are fortunate to have a lot of outdoor sculpture up here.

I think another contest would be good, unless there are prizes its hard to get peoples attention and time, maybe a contest in the New Year with some incentive on offer?

regards,
Nat

Ronen Bekerman and Tomorrow (a Stockholm based firm) are running another challenge: https://jobs.ronenbekerman.com/tomorrow-2018-challenge/
They are providing a model this time around, could be a fun exercise.
