Justin is quite right about no rules for natural-looking images, but it is a render contest after all, not a pp contest.

This is an interesting point because we found with some recent contest entries that the PP kind of overwhelmed the render. It's not that this is a bad thing, because you can achieve some fabulous results with PP to create a mood or feeling. In fact in some cases, it's a better approach to take.

However when this happens, a lot of the subtle qualities of the render can be lost.

Most of us tend to take the view that enough PP to enhance the natural qualities of the image is about right. However - it is an individual value judgement [smile]

I also agree with Justin that for informal (i.e. no prizes) contests, there is a lot more room for experimenting, because you aren't risking potentially losing prize money!

Hum, I think you may want to turn caustics off [wink]

BTW that's a great theme for instancing testing, ho wait!- Pro tip: you may not need instancing with the speed of the V2.5 exporter [smile]

Caustics were off [smile]  Here's the result.  I'm still playing with some of the settings.

Hey guys! I started working on this scene almost right away after it was talked about in the Contest thread. I wanted to do a classic red an green Christmas for a December post on my Instagram feed and to share on this Winter/Holiday Challenge. I've found I enjoy doing this little side projects and I might summit another image before the final deadline. Would love to hear your feedback.

That's really nice overall! I love the flooring. Just the right amount of shine, I believe. I also like your color scheme and most of the items. I don't love the light hanging that low from the ceiling though. It seems to be wrong, or not quite believable. Also, I'm not sure of the drapes. I was thinking they shouldn't be so sheer, at least for wintertime... but they are a great color! I really love the carpet and how it lays.  [smile]

Hi Everyone,

Here is my starting point for the Christmas Challenge.

I wanted to produce a scene showing my fondest Christmas memory from when I was a child.

This is my grandparents living room where we use to spend nearly every Christmas. I will explain the memory in more detail with the final image.

I know there is awful jpeg compression on these, but they are just a starting point. I have only rendered on Interior Default at viewport size so far, so the image quality will improve as I start to render on a higher preset.
