a couple of months ago i made a few renders of a somewhat old – 2003 – competition project for the provincial HQ of a brazilian political party (I got second in the national competition). they were made before 1.7.1 came out so i did not take advantage of the soft shadows available now.

nice renders edson  as always.
Some problems with simple grey faces.

Some thoughts about these nice grey colours. I'm coming to this conclusion, that we should never use simple colours in SU, but textures only. A simple noisy texture is fine. Try this one at 0.20% please. Use noisy preset at 8x, then any other. You'll find this interesting. Then the same texture at .50% or 0.10%. Noisy preset is fast and shows the differences. All other presets are much slower and really noisy. Thats funny.

hi michalis,
what exactly do you mean do you mean by "Try this one at 0.20%"? are you talking about opacity? and also "Use noisy preset at 8x"???? i don't get you.
how come the noisy preset is the fastest? it has always been the slowest!

hi shoeb,

thanks. to tell you the truth, my project was much better than the winner. i have entered many competitions and never complained about the jury's decision but this one really pissed me off. most people who saw both projects agreed with me, except the jury, of course.

Instead of a grey tone use this noisy texture. And noisy preset using direct sunlight, is the fastest preset on my machine. (nehalem 16 threads MAC pro). (A core2duo (my macbook pro) has two threads cpu so podium does two passes for 1xnoisy. On the 16 theads macpro does 16 passes for 1xnoisy)

OK thanks edson, try to do some more, this just an example. Believe me, render is much faster, no "leaks" no zones etc.
