Hi,

I have not been on this site since March 2018. It has been a while. The render I present here is my first since back then.
Anyway, for those who remember my last post, I am anal about details. However, I did not have time to go that far and redesign all the equipment in 3D for this image as I am actually too busy building this studio for myself. This picture is intended for marketing purposes.
The studio will open in January 2020. Still much to be done...
It won't be big, but it will be just fine.

Great model & render.

I'm actually looking at something very similar for a studio in Dubai.

Is there any chance you'd be willing to share the model of the control desk?  The detail looks fantastic and the desk is virtually identical to what I need to show.

Thanks, steve.

Hi,

I put up another studio render in the gallery around November 2019. I am actually building that other studio. I have been doing so since January and will be done by March 2021 as I am building it by myself. The desk on that render is very similar. Check it out. If you are interested, I will gladly send you the SketchUp model.

I remember the similar rendering from last year.  We posted it to FB.  Really good. I would like to post this one as well.  Is that OK?

So, this is completely non-Podium or modeling comment and question below.

The studio booth for the engineer is much bigger than the studio itself or am I missing a room?
From my experience as both a recording engineer and being recorded, to get the first drum track, rock groups like to perform live initially so that the engineer can record the drums first.  Drummers typically can not keep a beat without being in a live session.  Then when you have the drums recorded, you layer other instruments and vocals, effects etc.
So I have not being doing this kind of work in over 20 years so maybe things have changed. But I see you have a real drum kit in the section view.  So I'm assuming some of the drum tracks are live and not drum machines.

In that case, do you have other musician play directly in the board when doing a live drum track?

Things can be done in many ways. I have 25 years experience as a sound engineer and have worked with many famous artists during my career in Los Angeles. This said, the room showing on this render is never going to be built as I found a space twice as big (see my render from October 2019).

To answer your initial question partially, if one does not have a choice, the control room should always be the priority. It is much preferable to have a 10 m2 tracking room and a 30 m2 control room than the opposite. No serious work can be done in a control room that is smaller than 25 m2. On the other hand, tracking in a smaller room is always doable. I remember having recorded Sheila E. on percussions in a tinny room with great results for an album that went gold within a couple of weeks.
Mixing and making the right decisions in a small room is impossible due to standing waves and modes in low frequencies. I am an acoustical engineer to start with and have designed and built many projects all over the world (just to underline my experience when it comes to acoustics).
Anyway, I hope that my short answer helped.
