hi guyz! i don't know know if this has been asked before but here goes. i was playing around using a transparent .png image and attached it to a face. however upon rendering it in podium it disappeared. i then tried applying the same ,png image to a glass surface but when i rendered it it was there.

my question now is if it is possible to render these transparent .png on the red surface and see it after being rendered in podium? co'z i can't seem to find how to do it. i know that i can simply create a jpeg file with the same red background and import it and use as image but is there any way to do it with a transparent .png image?

This is a question about SU not podium. You have to place the png in front of the other face not on it. Better to compose it in Ps and use a simple texture.
BTW this topic is for tutorials not for help.

thanx for the reply michaliszissiou! but what do you mean by placing the png in front of the other face not on it? could you please explain further? i've tried putting the .png infront of a face and i can see that it's there, but when i rendered it it's gone which made me think it was more of a podium issue than sketchup.

to the mods kindly move this topic to the right thread!

thanx!

Please post a SU raw preview. I had similar problems 2 years ago. In any case its better to compose a texture and forget transparency. Now I know, what about to model an absolut vodka bottle?

here i used the .png as an image.

i can see that it is attached in the face, but when i render it in podium it doesn't show.

here, i used the same .png as texture. but when i applied it to the face the red surface turned transparent as well

my question is if it is possible to use these transparent .png and apply it to a face and still see it there after being rendered? does podium support rendering of transparent png images?

thanx again!

Com on, you know it does. You just rendered one. Its SU snapping that troubles you, the face with the logo has to be one mm in front.

michaliszissiou,

I have a question for you about this issue.  SU requires a png to be attached to something, so when you say to put it a mm in front are you attaching to a transparent surface, making a group and moving it forward?

thanks

You may import from SU tex palette and assign a transparent png to a face. This will make this face transparent.
You may import and explode the image,  this automatically produces a face with the png assigned as texture. This texture is assigned as "projected" texture. This means that if you copy these properties (eye drop tex tool)  the face you'll assign this image (click or alt+click) will have a projected image too.
These are SU tips not podium ones. But its OK.

so you're suggestion is to make ng .png image offset by 1 mm, but if i attached the .png to the face then that's the trouble. so can we say that podium cannot really render a transparent image?

You are getting confused

It isn't question of what Podium does, but understanding and configuring how you want it to behave.

If you apply a transparent png to a face, then of course the whole face takes up the transparent png texture. Transparent parts of the image will disappear.

What you want is for the transparent png to act as an applied 'decal'.
The way to do this is to effectively float it over the background texture.
