Hello everyone!

Zeus asked me about the lamp in this image, so thought I'd post some info here.

ProWalker still doesn't support colored LEM materials, but for a globe pendant you can fake it to some degree by putting the light emitting material on a sphere inside the outer glass component.  As long as you use a relatively high diffuse value on the outer shell it should retain some of the color you've assigned to the outer material.

It also creates a nice "dimmer around the edges" effect that you sometimes see with frosted glass... if you wanted this to be less noticeable I think you could just reduce the gap between the inner and outer components.

Please don't mind the floor, the texture got scrambled but I didn't think it was distracting enough to worry about.

If you want it, here's the lamp (it's not from Browser)Colored globe pendant

Thanks for sharing, Justin!
You made an ingenious and tricky skill that I never thought about before!
Though in the later version of PW can support colored Lem, it still works when it comes to make a less noticeable lamp.

Will this work for making Glow-signs in Prowalker GPU?

Or, I need to move to Su-podium for rendering ?

I messed around a little bit, and you can get some semblance of colored glowing signage in ProWalker using LEMs.  The thing is, I used Photoshop on both of these to really punch up the red saturation, and also used some layer tricks  That works just fine in isolation like this, because the rest of the image is basically monochrome, but it would be a bit trickier in a real image with elements other than the sign.

Different style, more like a bright neon sign.

The thing is, neither of these is really emitting much light because the LEM power is turned way way down.  And in the real world, the color on these is usually a lot richer and more energetic.  I'm looking at a Fred Meyer sign right now, and the signage at night is very red.  My first try almost matches the color, but totally lacks the energy.

I'd say stick with Podium for this application, since it can render colored glowing LEMs without any workarounds or post-processing trickery.

These models are attached though, if you want to see the construction and material settings.

Thanks Justin for your response. Really appreciate the feedback we get on this forum from you all.

Would love to see this feature coming to PW GPU sometime soon .....as otherwise it is great for quick exterior renders .... And Neons are everywhere :)

It's looking like better support for colored LEMs will be in the next version, along with HDRI rotation.  Two big wishlist items!
