Hey guys

Been working on a renovation for a mate of mine, new retaining in front of the existing single story brick, then light weight framing over. Lets see how the budget goes! 69 Kitchener street Timber Exploded 2020-03-31 09192400000 2.jpg

Great to see you back mitchy -it’s been a while!

You’ve been busy I see, this is great! I also really like the design.

Here’s a design suggestion though, and I’m just going to throw it out there - have you thought about maybe treating the ‘interior’ of the timber box in a different colour/shade/species of timber?

Don’t get me wrong, I really like it as it is, but I was working on a similar kind of design feature on a completely different element (cloakroom pods in a primary school actually) and the same kind of question arose for me.

I’m lining the pods with different colours, so each interior is like kind of the inside of a coat having a different coloured lining.

It makes you think about the form differently. Another option would be to treat the rear flat panel differently.

One of the great things about Podium is that you can test this stuff out and render it really quickly!

Obviously it’s a fabulous render [tongue]

Thanks Jim, yes it has been a while!

I like the suggestion, and the analogy also I will give it a shot. I'm thinking more saturated colour for the outer portal and lighter less saturated internal

Here's my version - also rendered in Podium [wink]

I did a number of different iterations and the contrasting interior was my favourite!

Sorry, hope you don't mind - I couldn't resist, this is another way of dealing with the form that you might find interesting.

It's a lovely project, and you've approached it in a really cool way!

Go for it Jim, appreciate the perspective.

Did a quick photoshop for the two tone. I dig it, it emphasizes the projection aspect i think.
yeah the colour combo on the pods makes a hug difference, and good colour choices too! how many options do you have to play with?

The slope in is cool too, but i cant get floor joists out there. the client is a structural engineer so he has given me that design to work with. 69 Kitchener street Timber Exploded 2020-03-31 09192400000 2 copy.jpg

That works rather nicely!

For the angle, I wasn’t thinking about the space behind, just angling the facade to emphasize the view out. It was purely decorative, but it looks great as is.

Great work as usual Mitch [thumb]

F
or my cloakroom pods, There are around 7 of them in the school, and we’re kicking around the idea of different colours for each classroom. We’re using a through-coloured MDF called Valchromat, but their colour range is not fantastic...
